What pessimism when I read this article. Ok, I'm not a Thailand scholar with the qualifications to comment on its politics. But I must say, the Thai politics had been providing some entertainment recently.
It's been so long since the country have some consistant governance until they ousted Thaksin. Then the curtail was drawn up to showcase more dramatic events on the political arena of the country. Having said that, I must applaude the Thai for not taking this to more violent state. The 'Orange Revolution' in Ukraine also demonstrated the possibilities of peaceful transition of power. If only all the ppl understood this simple philosophy, the world will be a better place.
So, this new PM, he looks quite photogenic. I don't know much about his political views or policies but I hope he'll provide some stable political climate to the country. Especially with the current economic turmoil (don't think Thai is much exposed to the crisis), an united nation will help alot.
However, with the interferance from the army, I'm not confident this new government will last long too. A country in general need a charismatic leader, which is partly why Obama is elected. Someone who can draw attention to his political agenda. Someone with some mysteries or unique background always capture the imagination of the public eg. JFK. Hence, good luck to this new PM of Thai. I hope he can bring some calm to the politics of the nation.
